Leadership Book Learning Circle
September 10, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm PDT
Learning Circle of 6 bi-weekly, 90-minute sessions using the book Unlocking Leadership Mindtraps by Jennifer Garvey Berger.
Facilitated by Ken Saxon and Jennifer Reitz.
Has there been a time in recent decades when leaders face as much uncertainty and complexity as in recent months? A pandemic-caused health and economic crisis. Protests in the streets for racial justice. Having to keep up with shifts in technology, science and governance and their impacts on our organizations and the people we serve?
Jennifer Garvey Berger is an expert on leadership under conditions of uncertainty and complexity. In her short and highly distilled new book, she outlines five ways humans are wired that work against them in facing complexity and uncertainty (mind traps), and ways to avoid them. The five mind traps she writes about are “Trapped by Simple Stories,” “Trapped by Rightness,” “Trapped by Agreement,” “Trapped by Control,” and “Trapped by Ego.”
In this workshop, participants will be asked to read a chapter from the book before each session. When we convene for sessions on Zoom, we’ll discuss the chapter content and the facilitators will give participants opportunities to apply it to their leadership, their organizations and their lives. We hope to see participants come away from each session with actionable takeaways.
