In this spring’s issue, GEO ASKS Ken Saxon, board leader, facilitator and coach, about his experience in leadership development for nonprofits. Upon entering the nonprofit world, Saxon was shocked to see how little was being done to invest in nonprofit leaders’ professional and personal development. In an effort to address this missing component, Saxon founded Courage to Lead, an inner leadership and renewal program, to build support and  community around nonprofit executive leaders so they can do their best work and live their best lives. This approach to inner leadership development is less practiced, but it is an important investment grantmakers can make to help organizations develop and retain leaders that can sustain themselves and inspire others in uncertain times.
