Investing in Nonprofit Leaders’ Courage to Lead
The Common Good, April 2011
Our communities are ever more dependent on
dedicated and capable nonprofit leaders. The Santa Barbara
Foundation believes that strengthening the nonprofit sector is
among our highest priorities and we are proud to support a
cutting edge home-grown organization—Courage to Lead.
Ken Saxon, a former Santa Barbara Foundation trustee, founded
Courage to Lead in 2008. He was inspired by many of the
wonderful nonprofit leaders he had met, and was shocked at
how little their organizations invested in them. Courage to Lead
is a leadership and renewal program designed to support nonprofit
executive leaders so they can better sustain themselves
and their commitment to their work. “This program invests in
building more sustainable, resilient leaders,” Saxon said.
